CHARACTER
Name: Michael Warren
Canon: Graceland
Age: 17
Demigod/Hunter/Satyr/Nymph: Post-Ragnarok Tyr
Demigod abilities: Mike possesses prowess in battle- he has a natural talent with weapons as well as unarmed combat
Personality: Mike believes in law and order and justice and all kinds of great, noble things. It's safe to say that he's an idealist, but at least he’s one that can cope with the world not living up to his expectations and try to change things so that it does. His original goal in life was to become an FBI agent, and he still intends to do that- this deity thing is just a pit stop on the way, or even something that he’ll be able to use. Being the reincarnation of the god of law and heroic glory has to be an asset in the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Intelligence, right?
Sometimes this idealism can cause him to come off as a little naive, but that would be a definite underestimation of his character… and one that can be dangerous if you oppose him. Mike is very intelligent and while he may not want to believe the worst of people, if he has any reason to suspect that something hinky is going on, he’ll investigate it. After all, an investigation could prove them innocent as well as guilty and either way, he’ll have solid proof and that’s definitely preferable to taking someone’s innocence on faith.
Mike is excellent at thinking on his feet and coming up with new ideas and tactics and lies, especially under stress. He can hold it together in even extreme situations, like having a gun or two pointed at his head, though he does sometimes panic later, especially when it’s a brand new situation- in the series, he has to sit down and breathe deeply after a confrontation with a DEA agent he’s been sent to kill while undercover and he says he feels as though he’ll throw up after having a gun held to his head by his training officer in another undercover role (after they get out alive, of course). He’s a fast learner, though, and learning to ride the adrenaline is just one more lesson. In that vein, it’s very rare for him to make the same mistake twice, or to make a mistake that he’s seen someone else make.
Mike has a great respect for authority and the rules. He’s unwilling to give up the rules unless something more important is at stake- for instance, in the second episode of the show he chases down a minor thug to arrest him (an FBI agent must respond to any violent crime he sees) and has to be tackled to make him stop before he breaks his cover. He is eager to listen to and learn from the people above him (he doesn’t even question taking his training officer’s turns on the chore wheel, for instance), but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t think about his orders and ask questions if something seems off to him. He will obey, but he doesn’t turn his brain off.
Mike isn’t entirely altruistic: he’s ambitious, too. He has lofty goals, goals that he intends to use to help people, and he doesn’t appreciate it when things happen that will put obstacles in his way… though he’ll get past those obstacles as best he can.
In his less intense moments, when the stakes aren’t so high, Mike can be a bit dorky and cheesy and even (especially) cute. He’s earnest and sweet and while he’s competitive, he doesn’t let it get in the way of having fun- not when it is just for fun. He likes flirting and kidding around with his friends (saying ‘good morning’ purposefully loudly to a friend with a hangover, knowing he’s being a jerk, among other things), though he does end up playing the straight man to those wackier than he is and often ends up having to be educated thanks to the fact that he can be a bit more naive than those around him.
Much like his pre-Ragnarok form of Tyr, Mike is concerned with the law and doing the right thing, even if it means lying or even putting himself in harms’ way- he would have put his hand into Fenrir’s mouth so that he would allow himself to be chained, even though he knew the truth of the situation. Tyr knew that his assurance to Fenrir was a lie, but he did it for the good of the world. He is constantly looking to make the world a better place, even if the means of changing it are a little underhanded, pun not intended but hilarious anyway.
AU History: Until his teens, Mike’s life was pretty normal. He lived with his parents and his grandfather, who was one of the biggest influences on his life- he was an FBI crime scene photographer, and the one who imbued Mike with his early interest in law and justice. Mike decided to become an FBI Agent before he even reached the double digits, considering them the height of being one of the good guys, and he has been working toward that ever since.
When he was sixteen, Mike was sent to the exclusive Memphis Preparatory Academy, informally known among the students as Graceland. While he was initially an outsider among the small, closely-knit student body, he quickly made friends and actually learned to relax and enjoy himself for once- he’d always been pretty intense, and he had a hard time relaxing. Among the company of other intelligent, driven teenagers, he finally learned how to have a good time.
Of course, things weren’t entirely smooth at Graceland. The deputy headmaster, Juan Badillo, knew of his ambitions to go into the FBI and offered him help in that area, providing he did one thing- investigate one of his friends, who Badillo suspected of organizing a school-wide drug ring, mostly involving weed and prescription pills. Mike agreed, partly because he could use Badillo’s contacts, and partly because if his friend was involved, he wanted to find out the truth.
Mike was a little bit disturbed at how easily lying and sneaking around to investigate his friend was- he had a few close calls when it came to getting caught, but while he didn’t find any evidence that his friend was organizing the drug ring, nobody realized what was actually going on. What he did find out was that his friend had a drug problem, one that he’d been keeping secret for years. However, when he reported that to Badillo, hoping that his friend would get the help he needed, Badillo encouraged him to continue the investigation instead, to find definite proof that his friend was the school’s drug dealer.
Badillo’s vehemence that it had to be Mike’s friend made Mike realize that something else was going on, that there was more to Badillo’s investigation than his wanting to find out the truth. Badillo had a grudge against his friend, blaming him for an accident several years before that had ended in several deaths of both students and staff. When Mike realized that Badillo was trying to further his grudge and not actually do the right thing, he quit and told his friend what was going on, and the end result was that Badillo got fired. The rest of the year was not exactly easy and Mike didn’t plan to return for his final year of high school. At least he’d done the right thing.
Surprisingly, the woman who came to pick him up at the end of the school year wasn’t his mother, but a strange woman that seemed to have everyone persuaded that she was Joyce Warren. Despite his protests, he was bundled into her car, where he had a very interesting conversation: the woman claimed to be Hera, the goddess Hera, and she had something even more unbelievable to tell him- no, not that he was a Greek god too, but that he was a Norse one.
He was obviously reluctant to believe at first, but if what she was saying was true, he knew it could help him help other people. So he did what he always did in situations like that: he investigated. Part of that investigation was going to Camp Half-Blood for the summer, where it was proven beyond a doubt that he was something special.
Then came getting abducted on his way home and being returned to the camp on a permanent basis, but he’s determined not to let that stop him from achieving his goals. It just means he has to work harder.
Counselor: Alas, he's not greek, though he’ll be staying in cabin 16
